The palace of Diocletian was built in the 4th century by order of the Roman emperor Diocletian (Caius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus Augustus). Roman Emperor from the year 284 to 305 (21 years), he had this fortress built to spend his last years there.

Today, this palace is a must in the city of Split. The entrance to this palace is free since it is an integral part of the city.
However, there are some paid attractions.
• Cathedral - Mausoleum of Diocletian
• Crypt
• Temple of Jupiter
• The treasury
• The tower of the bell
These 5 paid attractions are part of a package available for $15 CAD (80 kuna), but can be purchased individually. Personally, among these 5 attractions, I would say that the crypt is the least impressive.
The free access to the central square of the palace is also very pleasant. Especially in the evening to enjoy a glass of wine with live chansonnier. From this central square, it is also possible to access the basement of the palace where there are many marchants.
