A pearl off Dubrovnik.

Lokrum island is a perfect destination for a day trip from Dubrovnik and no need to book in advance to visit it.

It is possible to get your ticket (200 kuna - about $35 CAD) at the kiosk located in the old port of Dubrovnik. The ticket includes round-trip transport by taxi boat as well as access to the island.

And here is how to visit Lokrum.

Map Explanations:

  • On arrival, the taxi boat lands you at points 1 and 2.

  • Continue your way to point 3.

  • Points 3 and 4 are in the same place. Maxmilian’s gardens are inside the monastery.

  • Continue your way to point 8.

  • At the end of point 8, you arrive at point 9.

  • Head towards point 12. On your way you will observe points 10 and 11.

  • At the end of point 12, you arrive at point 13.

  • After point 13, go down through the left passage and you will visit points 14, 15, 16 and 17 on your way.

  • Keep going down the path.

  • You are back at point 1. Take the opportunity to swim en enjoy the sun.

  • Finalize your journey with points 7, 6 and 5 which are all near point 3.

In addition, here are some tips and observations following the visit to the island:

  1. There are departures every hour and returns are at all:15 and:45 of each hour.

  2. It takes about 5 hrs to visit the island and enjoy all the attractions.

  3. Wear hiking sandals. The paths and beaches are rocky.

  4. Bring your swimsuit and a towel.

  5. Bring plenty of water and snacks.

  6. The swim at point 1 is more beautiful than at points 6 and 16 and includes bathrooms, showers, and cabins to change.

  7. Perfect swimming spot for children at point 5 + park with games, sun loungers and umbrellas.

  8. There are restaurants between points 2 and 3.

  9. Point 12 is very steep. Get ready to sweat! Take your time, breaks and drink water.

  10. 10. Points 7, 11 and 14 are not worth the detour. If you miss them, it is fine.

  11. You have the option of either bringing an inflatable tube to swim or purchasing one at point 1.

Lokrum has quite an impressive history, and I invite you to read it and visit the official website of the island.
